Wish You Were Here Wednesday: Statue of Liberty
“Wish You Were Here Wednesday” (or WYWHW for short) is a weekly photograph from an amazing destination. The world is so beautiful and diverse. We want to showcase gems from all corners of the globe!
This week’s WYWHW is the Statue of Liberty
in honor of Independence Day. The monument, which was a gift from France, has not been open since Superstorm Sandy passed through last fall. Lady Liberty remained unharmed, but her surrounding land was severely flooded and cost an estimated $59 million in repairs.
July 4th marks the official reopening. This is big news since the Statue of Liberty has technically been off limits since October 29, 2011. She was closed for scheduled repairs and upgrades, and opened briefly on October 28, 2012 – just one day before the park was swiftly closed due to Sandy.
Have you been to this week’s WYWHW? Tell us about it! Or offer up suggestions for a future WYWHW in the comments below. Thanks and happy travels!
