St. Kitts & Nevis Alive with Culture!

Looking for that place to have fun in the sun while taking in some of the rich history and culture that only a smaller Caribbean island can provide?
Then look no further than the smallest country of the Americas, located in the Eastern Caribbean. The Federation St. Kitts and Nevis has been passed up by the world, mostly unnoticed.  However, savvy travelers and celebrities have been heading here for years at resorts such as St. Kitts Marriott Resort, Montpelier Plantation Inn and the 5-star Four Season Resort Nevis.

It is just the place to head to for family fun, newlyweds and couples especially with the upcoming Culturama Festival. Culturama 2013 is a two-week festival that offers a warm welcome to locals and visitors alike. The festival takes place prior to and during an extremely important holiday to residents known as Emancipation Day. The celebration is dedicated to the full emancipation of the slaves in 1838.

From July 25th to August 6th, Culturama 2013 celebrations will take place on the smaller island of Nevis. This serves as the perfect introduction to traditional Caribbean hospitality with a tropical rhythm of Carnival on a smaller but nonetheless vibrant scale.

An energetic display of culture is shown through street jams, food stalls, dance, theater, Carnival costumes and arts and crafts. All this heralds the build up to the action packed competitions in the final events of the Emancipation Day weekend.

Masquerade Dance in Nevis

Watch the traditional folk dances, such as the masquerade.

One of the most anticipated events is the crowning of Miss Culture Queen 2013. One lucky young miss will be chosen as the winner that not only stresses her beauty but talent and display of intelligence.

The thirst for authentic Caribbean Calypso music is quenched by performers using their gift of poetic words expressed in song, highlighting on the social realities of the home front and international community in competition.

Beach Horseback Riding

Go for a horseback ride along the shore.

Culturama’s heritage festival welcomes the entire family but no portrayal of St. Kitts and Nevis would be complete without mentioning other activities offered year round. The sister islands may be small but are jammed pack with activities for all.

Consider horseback riding on secluded beaches, snorkeling in waters of crystal clarity, trek in a rain forest covered mountain or bike ride with the kids on some of the old sugarcane estate roads. History buffs can visit the very house Alexander Hamilton was born in, now part of the Museum of Nevis History; or gaze upon historical artifacts within the National Museum of St. Kitts.

The resorts, mountains and beaches are the crowning touch.  Now that the secret is out, the residents are anxiously waiting to show you St. Kitts and Nevis. Hop between islands via the local ferry.

St. Kitts has a main airport with direct flights from Puerto Rico and major cities in the United States.  There are a variety of accommodations that will match the family’s lifestyle that will make any stay truly special and magical.
